Breeding like...

... rabbits.

I've covered Chinese New Year before so I won't stop to explain but Thailand is the only country to celebrate (with equal enthusiasm) three New Years (Thai, Chinese and our own Gregorian New Year.)

2011 - starting tomorrow - is the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth sign in the Chinese zodiac. It's an excellent sign to be; it's not the size of the creature but what is in their nature.

I heard the first calls of Kung Hei Fat Choy yesterday and this morning during a peaceful pilates class the first set of fire crackers went off. They might go off for a duration of fifteen or twenty seconds - usually out of the blue. I'm still quite shocked by them - not as much as I was in the early days when I thought bombs were going off but they still make me jump.

Since the end of November rabbits have been appearing all over Bangkok. I had no idea when I started collecting all their pictures how out of control it would get; how very apt.

We have every conceivable rabbit...

I know I always say this, but what an amazing place Bangkok is... I am amazed! A surreal mix of cultures!

Thanks for going to all the bother of collecting, downloading and posting all those photos!

Oh you certainly have an abundance of bunnies. I hope they bring you a happy new year! (I haven't been around very much so I've missed your amazing snapshots of Bangkok!).

I love the real one and the last fluffy one. I also rather like eating them but maybe I shouldn't mention that out loud!!!!

Oh I love it! The enthusiasm for carnival type celebration is fab! My 9 year old daughter also peered over my shoulder to look at these photos & had a giggle. It could almost be mistaken for Easter as well with all those potential Easter Bunnys.

Like Disneyland isn't it! Really cheerful. My favourite is the simple orange line-drawing. Quite perfect, beautifully done.

Leigh, it is isn't it? And it's a pleasure.

Bernadette, they are everywhere and I didn't even venture into Chinatown...

Liz, a lovely sign. I'm a horse.

Flowerpot, thank you.

Queenie, there had to be one...

Chris, no problem (nor have I.) Lovely to see you here again.

Sheepish, that's okay - you live in France! I'll forgive you... though I don't much fancy them myself.

Kat, absolutely though the big ones at the top were up for Christmas too which strikes me as very confusing.

RTC, yes I like that one. I can't decide which is my favourite though.

Helen, thank you.

Well it's a good thing you didn't start hunting for bunnies in Chinatown like I did :-D

I did get photos of the Emporium bunny and others but after my post developed into a Chinatown sans bunnies theme, no point in posting the photos.

It was totally amazing to me how Chinatown didn't decorate with bunnies. I was so sure I'd find them everywhere.
