Friday Photo: Waste not, want not

Updated: Errrm, how much of a berk am I? Are you too polite to tell me it's Thursday? Doh. Oh well, I am writing: I'm allowed to be a little eccentric.

Decoration?
To attract and trap something?
To scare something off?

No idea but don't throw them away - they could be useful.

Spotted on Koh Kret Island.

Wow, how intriguing! At first glance I thought bird feeders, but I can't really see how that could be possible. Decoration?

Outing a fetish for evaporated milk?

Or maybe they're trying to grow a bunch of carnations, English stylee.

Oh God, I've commented twice now. That's a bit greedy isn't it?

Su, odd isn't it?

Jen, surely not?

Jen again (greedy? Noooo) Yes, growing carnations: of course!

My first guess, and it is a guess, is that they're there to stop something from climbing the post (rats? snakes?). I say this because they're upside down (thus providing dead-ends) with sharp lids still attached.
My second guess is that they're Buddhist symbols - something to do with reincarnation.

Great photo.
Have a nice day, Boonie

After a second look the positioning of the upper three cans would pretty much prevent a snake from coiling itself around the post.
And you're not a berk at all. I didn't see anything amiss with 'Friday' Photo until you pointed it out....

Take care, Boonie

I was so confused when I saw your Friday photo tweet this morning! I'd just woken up and had to spend a good long while working out if it was actually Friday, not Thursday as I'd assumed! I was rather disappointed...

You're forgiven on writing grounds, obviously!

Ha ha ha Boonie, rein-carnation. I love it. Thank you. And EEEEEK, snakes, is that right? I'm not at all comfortable with that.

Liz, oh dear I am laughing at your confusion. I'm so sorry to give you that challenge early on a Thursday morning. It was hours before I discovered my error.

1. I thought you were just being super-efficient in advance!
2. veri-word is polling which is what this post is about! Pun intended. I'm sure someone makes these up!
3. I think they might be to catch earwigs? People put upside-down plant pots full of straw on canes next to their plants - earwigs like to hang out in what they think is the top part of a plant. It might be the Thai version of the bug? Then lift them off, slam down the lid and bin it?

Me again, my turn to be greedy - still on bug theme, is the smell of the milk irresistible to some bugs?

RTC, oh dear no. It's because I'm a twit of the highest order. On your second note (you're welcome by the way - more comments make me feel more important!) that's what I wondered. Like slugs go for beer - perhaps something in Thailand likes carnation milk? Hmmm.

ON NO. I can't even comment properly! I do give up.

Yes but other people making mistakes cheers the rest of us up no end! xxx

It's just a guess - but I stick by it. You did have a confusing Thurs/Fri didn't you?

All the best, Boonie
