Random post

Okay, as requested by DJ, here's a photo of the funky sofa that I talked about here

We both fell in love with the sofa when we saw it and we were just as pleased when it arrived. It looks great in our big room... and it's always admired by people when they come to the apartment but it's so uncomfortable (because it's round?) that I hardly ever sit on it - only to watch TV.

Daughter spends most time on it. She appears to have found a solution to its lack of comfort. She rearranges two thirds of the cushions (the orange and the cream ones) to support her back and under her legs which are thrust out in front of her. So if anyone else shows up wanting to watch TV with her... well it's suddenly it's even less comfortable than it was before Daughter got there.

Once, many years ago, just after we were married, we inherited a sofa from one of our parents. We were most grateful for it because we had no money at the time. The sofa was the most hideous looking thing ever, but OMG, it was comfortable. I think that piece of furniture might have been the one where the sofa became the place that I loved to read.

I think there might be such a thing as the perfect sofa: one that looks beautiful and is dreamily comfortable too. One day, I hope to own one like that.

It's certainly beautiful to look at. I have an enormous sofa that you can sink back into and loved the idea of nestling down for hours with a good book. Unfortunately, it's so big that I need loads of cushions to get comfortable and don't usually sit on it.

Bring back chaise longues.

p.s. word verfication today is 'mallingr' which is exactly what I like to do on a good sofa.

Beauty and practicality are not always best mates, are they? It's looks good, I'll give it that. My sofas are tragic Plain Janes but oh! they give good book.

It does look wonderful...

Debs, sofas that are uncomfortable are a bit sad, aren't they? They don't fulfill their destiny.

HPoP, absolutely (on both counts.) We have a chaise longue in our bedroom but it's always piled high with bits of rubbish. *sigh*

LPlate, *grinning*

Spiral, 'they give good book' LOL.

Chris, thanks, but not nice to sit on: it's a bit sad, huh?

Beautiful shape and colour - such a shame. Maybe you need to add those beebag things - fatboys - so you can look at the sofa but live in comfort???

We have amazingly comfortable sofas, but they don't look anything like as chic as yours!

I too aspire to owning the perfect sofa. One day. Is your jet-lag better now?

J. It's an awesome looking sofa, and as someone who makes a habit of falling asleep on ours every evening after work, I'm sure your red monster would cure me of that dreadful habit in a flash.

But it occurs to me from reading your post: do you think that there are any parallels between the lumpy looking / comfortable sofas versus good looking / uncomfortable sofas ... and husbands?

As a rather lumpy looking husband myself, I'd like to believe so! Cripes I might even treat myself to a new upholstering this springtime. :-)

That's gorgeous, your home looks immaculate, a bit like a hotel room or a show home. I really love corner sofas and "when" I have talked my husband into renovating another drawing room in our house, I have big plans to get one! He doesn't know that bit yet.

It is a gorgeous object, but how disappointing that it's uncomfortable. I'm guessing the only way it'd work is by lying on your side and then sort of bending into the foetal position.

And totally agree about the tidiness. Impressive. Need time to consider the lumpy-looking man issue though!

it looks gorgeous - and it LOOKS like it would be comfy - how disappointing!

Don't mean to brag but I have the most comfy sofas in the world. Very sloppy looking, but dreamy soft.
