Wishful thinking

When Son and I were staying in Chiang Mai at half term, the hotel gave us a fortune cookie each day after housekeeping had been to clean the rooms. Here are three of mine:

I got it twice; it must be true. *Sigh*

I do wish that they applied to any part of my life but I seem to be out of control in every sphere right now.

So I am going to assume (and pray) that they apply to the writing part of my life. They certainly should: I am the only one at the helm. (WHAT? There’s no-one else in charge? EEEEK.)

Just before the red shirts' midday deadline kicks off, I am going to get myself out of the apartment for some air and to do a few jobs. I need to pick some New Red Editing pens, because L-Plate told me so. I am listening to her because she knows these things, even though I think scythes and bin bags might be more in order. What I have to do to this manuscript is looking less like editing and more like wholesale slaughter.

Good fortunes, and double must mean something!
Hope you feel more in control soon, I feel that way too lately. Maybe pen shopping will help--I LOVE new pens for editing! Perhaps try orange instead, since it's your fave. It might be more inspiring. :) Hang in there, the editing will get easier.

(Oops hit publish the first time and not edit...)

Good luck with the edit and hope all stays calm in Bangkok.

As far as your fictional world goes you are, indeed, master of all situations, all-powerful, almighty controller of EVERYTHING. Such POWER.
(if only it applied to real life. *sigh*)
Good luck with the editing!

Thanks Angie, it can only refer to the writing... I bought five or six different pens: one for every mood. I'm trying to learn how to use Scrivener at the moment so that I can use that.

Sheepish, thanks lovely. It's a bit boring that this is happening all over again!

Rebecca, indeed. *Sigh again* Yes, the power! But I'm hiding in a corner... scared to wield any of it.

Control? Are we ever in it? But I love fortune cookies and choose to believe them. As far as your talent goes...that's undoubtedly true. Stay safe over there, please! xo

I hope the pens help...and I'm sure that you don't need a scythe!!

Sue, thank you. I just wish I knew what my talents were...

Carol, oh I do... a great big sharp one to cut swathes!

I love buying pens of any colour, but seem to go through an awful lot of the red ones.

Oooh I do love a red pen. Is a bit disheartening when you have to chop and chop and chop all those lovely words. Bit if they're not working then they have to go. Once you get stuck in it won't seem so awful and you'll be excited by how you can improve and change your ms.
