On being uncool

So it’s Sunday…

But I can’t concentrate because I’m swinging and bobbing up and down a bit in my chair, listening to Johnny Horton’s The Battle of New Orleans. I love that song.

I watched Midnight Cowboy last night and have been tormenting myself all day, trying to work out how I knew the ‘Everybody Talks’ theme tune… not from the original: I’d have been two to three when that movie came out and I’ve not seen it before. (Apparently it was featured in Forrest Gump but I haven't seen either!) It's no doubt something terribly uncool ... like the Julio Iglesias cover and I'll wish I never mentioned it.

Anyway, Sunday means a word count confession.

I haven’t done any illicit Sunday writing today which is a bit disappointing… but I’ve started my second book review and I’m hoping with a fresh brain first thing in the morning it will come together in that magic way that it (sometimes) does.

Right so here goes, words this week: 3,101

So Sheepish, what have you done this week?

Great word count. I'm about to get going on my Sunday word for NaNo. No idea what to write though, and hoping for inspiration as soon as I get going!

I love that film, and I love the song. It was originally sung by Harry Neilsson, and I was sure someone had done a cover of it, but I can't find who.

Oh well done and I love that music from Midnight Cowboy too.
Word count confession for me ZERO words this week, but if you pop over to my blog later you will see why.

What's wrong with the count? Are you under deadline? To my thinking . . . that's roughly 12 pages for the week, which means in 24 weeks you'll be at 288 pages or a completed manuscript. Seems pretty good to me. Happy writing this week.

The trouble with that great song is that I remember when it was new and on the Hit Parade. Makes me feel old.

Greetings Tea-Drinker. I'm sorry I'm posting this comment about five days behind your actual current blog. Is there an etiquette for that? Am I ALLOWED to do it? I'm posting re Johnny Horton. That song is the most played song on my Ipod because I used it for 'speed' training (I use the term in its loosest possible sense) when I used to run. I had a playlist which featured the song every other track. I had a slow tune (slow running) and then 2'30" of Johnny giving it some beats and then another slow tune and so on. In my mind it is forever associated with sprinting, panting and feeling like shite! Two and a half minutes never felt so long.

Thanks Debs. All credit to you for doing Nano... I just couldn't.

Leigh, I saw the Harry Neilsson reference, but can't for the life of me decide how I know it.

Sheepish, you beat me! Well done you.

Sandra, nothing really. I write quite slowly, but the more writing I do, the more quantity I can manage so my word count standards are rising. This is a good thing. My self imposed deadline is the end of Nov.

Pierre, Oh, sorry to make you feel old. It's a brilliant song, though isn't it?

HPoP, you can come and comment whenever you like lovely. I confess I was listening to the Venn Diagram... I was wondering if there might be a Volume 2?
