What's this about?

I haven’t blogged today because I couldn’t decide what the post should be about.

It could be about how I am reading lots of YA fiction (Young Adult for the non writers) at the moment. Above is a selection of recent purchases. Or it could be about how differently I choose books nowadays from how I used to make selections.  I still go into a book shop and browse – my version of worship – and I do continue to judge a book by its cover (Pigtopia) but these days I do take lots and lots of notice of bloggers' opinions. I wonder if readers (as opposed to wannabe writers) are also looking to blogs for recommendations.

Mortlock, My So-Called Afterlife and Wasted are by authors who blog. You can find Jon Mayhew’s blog here; Tamsyn Murray’s here and Nicola Morgan’s here. Looking for Alaska was recommended by Nathan Bransford, an agent who blogs here.

I am indeed reading more recommendations from t'Internet than in days of yore. (My what?) (Eh?) (Oh shut UP!) I enjoyed My So-Called Afterlife, and my copy of Wasted has just arrived. I've always enjoyed YA, Mortlock is on my wishlist, and I shall now check out Looking for Alaska.

I don't think I've read any YA yet as I've always got a teetering tbr pile.
Maybe I should go investigate ...

Browsing in bookstores? What's that lol?

Yes I'm reading more recommendations from blogs too. Good idea - good publicity for authors and good for readers too.

A couple of those books are on my wishlist - all I need is more time so I can make a dent in my tbr pile.

I'm reading Nicola Morgan's 'Wasted' right now and loving it. It's different and very gripping.

I'm reading a lot of short stories at the moment and my TBR pile isn't getting any smaller. Its like a mini library in my spare room. I can't wait to read My So Called After Life

Queenie, would you consider trying to write a YA?

Lane, I've read some fab ones. Not sure I could pull it off as a writer though.

Karen, no idea. I never do it; much less buy anything.

Flowerpot, do you think the readers are coming to the blogs and reading them?

Crystal Jigsaw, you're welcome. I've read Alaska (very good) and I'm mid Wasted which is totally fab.

Suzanne, I can't make a dent. I read all the time but I replace as quickly as I read: eeek.

Talli, me too! I can't put it down. It's fab.

Lily, hmmm, I buy collections of short stories and then don't finish them. I do like them... but it isn't where my heart is.
