From washout week to storming Sunday

I reported yesterday what a disastrous week I’d had with my novel writing. And it couldn’t have come at a worse time… just as I’d launched on a neck and neck race with Sheepish. So the week was a disaster: draw a line under it. There is no point in dwelling on it but nor did I want to produce a shameful 600 words which is all I’d managed. I’d done well enough the previous week to make up for a shortfall this time but, you know, I didn’t want to give Sheepish the satisfaction… Although… maybe, I could mess with her head? I could lull her into a false sense of security, couldn’t I? Then she'd relax and I'd whip her woolly bum next week? *Clears throat* that sounded better in my head.

No no no. I said 500 words a day, five days a week. That’s my minimum. There was nothing else for it but to dedicate my Sunday to it.

So Sheepish, punctuated by Sunday lunch at the pub with family, I’ve had two Starbucks stints today and my words this week: 2607. I have to say, even though you’ve beaten me, that I am a bit proud of myself. It takes my total word count (as you can see left) to 68,000.

I can do this. I can.

I do feel we should ban Sunday writing on religious grounds, actually just because you managed to write so many words today!!! And writing in Starbucks, I feel another rule coming on. Ah well never mind I will trim my hooves and set to tomorrow with vengence in mind.
See you next Sunday it's no holds barred now!!!!!!

LOL, Sheepish. Don't you mean 'No holds Baa -aa -aa'?

Kate, thank you. Under normal circumstances 1000 words in a day is pretty damn good for me. 2k is unheard of. I'm hoping I haven't written total rubbish!

Helen, thanks honey. ;-D

Debs, but haven't I just seen on Facebook that you've been poorly all weekend? No wonder it's a 0... I wasted several weeks being poorly and writing naught! You'll get back to it. xx

You know you can; you've just proved it. A 2k day is definitely something to celebrate. I've had one of those today too - I think my first ever on non-academic writing - it's a great feeling, isn't it? I'm celebrating with a glass of wine, and I hope you're doing something similar.

That did make me laugh - the 'sounded better in my head'. Well done both of you!

You're doing so well. I have an online writing buddy and we have to produce a chapter for each other to read every week - we haven't missed a deadline yet!

68,000 is fantastic. It is about 60,000 more than me!
