The alcoholic's adage

I’m still jetlagged but I’m feeling a lot better now that I’ve reverted to sleeping on UK time! I got the kids up for school at 5.45am this morning which is normal and then I went back to bed for a bit of a lie in and woke up at 12.15! Whoops.

I’ve been trying very hard not to be too hard on myself this week. My personality morphs into a witch when I’m tired. I look pretty much the same on the outside – apart from dark shadows under my eyes and the lids heavier than usual – but inside I’ve got green teeth, warts with hairs and a vicious temper. Gosh, don’t I sound attractive?

While writing an article this week I’ve been carefully mulling over what I’m going to do next. Tentatively I plan to get started again. I’m going to try and write in the mornings. I must be gentle. I’m going to start by think about both book one and book two – if I can. I suspect at some point book two will be put on the side but at least the ideas will be there in the unlikely event I ever finish the first one for when they are needed.

I’m not issuing deadlines; I’m going to do the alcoholic’s ‘one day at a time.’

Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm crossing my fingers right now, but make sure to have a great weekend first, get lots of pampering rest! And I'm so jealous that you have an idea for a second novel - am secretly afraid that my first novel will be my last. I'd love that security!

One day at a time is a great adage...just be careful about one day slipping to one week to one month. Try and do a bit every day, no matter how few words, it'll keep your writerly juices flowing (why does that sound a bit ewwww?!)

All bits crossed.
One day at a time ... or perhaps small steps ...

Consider them crossed.

Everything's crossed for you. But I don't think you'll need it. I know you'll get there! :)

They're crossed. Now go forth and write:-)

Your inner witch was vividly described! She reminds me of the viler side of self.

Good luck!

One day at a time is good. What Cally said - write something each day. Books are made up of chapters, which are made up of paragraphs, which are made up of sentences, which are made up of words. So every word counts; even if you only write a few, it's an achievement to be cherished. You can do it, and we're rooting for you. (If it gets too hard, picture the Novel Racers in cheerleader outfits waving pompoms and going Rah Rah Rah. That should, er, well, make you laugh at least!)

Thanks Yvonne, I had exactly the same worry too, and then suddenly, while I was in the UK: PING. The next idea. It'll come to you too, I'm sure.

Cally, thanks. Yes that's my plan: write everyday, but one at a time. If I can't write novel then I will write from a prompt, so I'm still writing. (I don't know, but it does!)

L Plate, thanks hon.

Caroline, thank you. Small steps and each day...

Wordtryst, thanks m'dear.

SueG, thank you. I'm so hoping...

Lane, thanks and yes I shall.

Susie, thank you and I'm very glad I'm not the only one!

Zinnia, thanks. You're so right. Small steps: sentences. I am going to do it. And yes, I laughed out loud. I may have to photoshop that one! ... Oh, except that that would be wasting valuable writing time, wouldn't it?
